SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL TARDY PROCEDURE




1st Tardy -- Teacher signs tardy form.


2nd Tardy -- Teacher signs tardy form.


3rd TARDY

Teacher makes parent contact either by phone or in writing. Contact is documented
(DEAR PARENT,
This is the third offense. Your student has read the information regarding Santa Monica High School's Tardy Policy and understands that the parent will be contacted. A fourth offense will result in detention. Any additional offenses will result in suspension from school. In addition, he/she will lose lunch pass privileges for one semester. On the twelfth tardy, the student will be removed from the class or the school.

Tardiness is a violation of Education Code 48900 -- Defying Authority of the School. Your student has been directed to go to class on time and to be there daily. Your cooperation and encouragement will be appreciated. I understand that I am to deliver this to my parents.)


4th TARDY -- DETENTION
Teacher assigns a 30-minute detention to be served at lunch detention in B-10 or at a teacher assigned time/place – Documented


5th TARDY -- DETENTION
Teacher assigns a second 30 minute detention – Documented


6th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO ADVISOR
Referral to Advisor with prior documentation summarized on referral form by teacher; Parent Contact by the advisor; 2-hour Saturday School.


7th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO ADVISOR
2-hour Saturday School assigned.


8th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO ADVISOR
4-hour Saturday School assigned.


9th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO ADVISOR
4-hour Saturday School assigned and written notification to Parent.


10th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO HOUSE PRINCIPAL
In-School Suspension assigned.


11th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO HOUSE PRINCIPAL
In-School Suspension assigned.


12th TARDY -- REFERRAL TO HOUSE PRINCIPAL
In School Suspension assigned.

Parent is given written notification that the SARB process will be initiated along with further consequences. SARB is the School Attendance Review Board. It is a very serious legal procedure that demands accountability from both the student and parent(s) regarding attendance and school performance.
