    This course provides instruction in Driver's Education to prepare students to pass the DMV written examination for the Permit leading to the California Provisional Driver's License and is required before a student can take any behind-the-wheel training. The course teaches vehicle laws, personal responsibility behind the wheel, and appreciation of the causes, seriousness, and consequences of traffic accidents. There is no behind-the-wheel component to this course.

8 Weeks

Objectives:
To provide instruction in Driver Education that has as its purpose the development of those provisions of the Vehicle Code and other laws of the State of California relating to the operation of motor vehicles, a proper acceptance of personal responsibility in traffic, and true appreciation of the causes, seriousness, and consequences of traffic accidents, and to develop the knowledge and attitudes necessary for safe operation of motor vehicles. To prepare students to pass the DMV written examination, and to meet the requirements for issuing the required form DL 387.

Goals:
To prepare students for the California Minor's Provisional Permit and the DMV Driver's License Written Examination. To make students aware of the safe driving methods and to teach students to show respect for law enforcement personnel.

Requirements:
  1. Students must attend class and be there on time.
  2. Each student must present 5 current events on driving or automotive safety. No more than 2 reports be given at the same time.
  3. Each student must have a current California Driver's Handbook.
  4. The handbook is the class textbook and must be in the student's possession every day in class.
  5. All worksheets provided from Complete Driver's Education Program must be completed and maintained in a notebook with all current event reports.
  6. Students much achieve a satisfactory score on teacher directed tests.
  7. If you accumulate 5 points, you will be dropped from the class. You are assigned 1 point for each absence and 1/2 point for each tardy.
  8. Students must read portions of the DMV handbook daily and answer simple DMV questions.
  9. Students must report on classroom visitations of police officers, and other community leaders regarding motor vehicle operation.
  10. Students must pass an end of course DMV test with a satisfactory score in order to receive the certificate of completion of driver education form DL 387, which is required by the DMV to take the DMV written examination.
