10 THINGS YOU SHOULD BE DOING NOW



SENIORS


  1. Write or email four-year colleges and universities to obtain applications for admission and scholarship information.
  2. Complete a Brag Sheet and turn it in by October 1 for early decision, November 1 for regular decision. This form asks for your social security number. Memorize it - colleges often use this as your student identification number.
  3. Register for the SAT Reasoning Test and the ACT; in addition also register for the SAT Subject Tests or ACT with writing if required.
  4. Make an appointment with your college counselor after we have visited all Senior English classes. Ms. La Duke (A-K) or Ms Carrillo (L-Z).
  5. Attend the College Fair - put this event on your calendar.
  6. Obtain unofficial transcript from Ms. Hodges (A-K) or Ms. Fairchild (L-Z), the Records Clerks. Speak with your House Advisor if there are any errors.
  7. Read the daily and weekly bulletins so you are aware of important announcements such as scholarship and financial aid deadlines as well as dates for college representative visits. Sign up in the College and Career Center to attend.
  8. Decide if you want to apply early. Discuss with parents and your college counselor.
  9. Apply for free and reduced lunch if you are eligible. If you are eligible, you are entitled to fee waivers for college tests and some college application fees.
  10. READ THE MATERIAL WE HAND OUT TO YOU AND PLEASE SHARE IT WITH YOUR PARENTS -- IT WILL ANSWER MANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS -- THE SENIOR NEWSLETTER AND BRAG SHEET CAN BE ACCESSED HERE ON THE WEBSITE.

JUNIORS

  1. Work hard. Stay focused. Keep up your grades. Take the most challenging classes you can do well in. This is an extremely important year for college admissions.
  2. Take the PSAT test in Ocober at Santa Monica High School.
  3. Read daily and weekly bulletins and sign up to hear college representatives. See the list at:

  4. Attend the College Fair on Tuesday, October 3, 2006.
  5. In the Spring make an appointment to see a College Counselor
