PTSA MINI GRANTS FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS

Samohi PTSA Mini Grant Program

Dear Samohi Community,
The Samohi PTSA introduced the Mini-Grant program in 2004 to assist faculty and students with financial support for special projects.  Mini-Grants were developed so that groups & clubs that neither receive funding from the PTSA nor have regular fundraising activities could apply for awards of up to $250 each.

Applications are submitted to an advisory committee and are considered based on criteria that demonstrate both educational value and impact on the Samohi community as a whole. The committee also looks for innovative programs designed to expand on the basic curriculum.  Four Mini-Grants are awarded to groups & clubs, sponsored by a faculty advisor, each semester.

Grants have been awarded for a class set of books for the Existential Literature Class; art supplies for the Senior Visual Art Exhibition; the first Samohi United States History Day; Project Safe Zone; International Night at Open House; the model United Nations; Circle of Friends; a Latin reading of the Aeneid; a Women's Empowerment Workshop; "Family Reads" books in Korean, Spanish and Farsi, and a Latino Art Library, among many others.

Four mini grants of up to $250 each are available each semester. Each applicant must have a faculty sponsor to be considered. Upon completion of your trip or program, a written report to the PTSA is required. Applications will be thoroughly reviewed by an advisory committee that will award grants based on the following criteria:
  1. What is the purpose of your project? Does it have an educational and/or community value? How will participants benefit from your project?
  2. Will your project or trip have an impact on the larger Samohi community? How do you propose to share information with other students, staff, and/or families?
  3. Does your group currently receive financial support from either the PTSA or SMMUSD?
  4. What other funding is available for your project? Do you have other fundraising efforts planned?
  5. How are students selected to participate in this project?

First semester grant applications are due November 1 and notification will be November 15.
Second semester grant applications are due March 1 and notification will be March 15.

Good luck!
