||Caps and Gowns
Samohi will be ordering your cap and gown for the graduation ceremony at no cost to you. Cap and Gown distribution will take place the day before Graduation. You will need your current Samohi ID and to be clear of all school obligations (e.g. Attendance, Textbooks, Library, College Center, Financial). You will not receive your cap and gown until all obligations are satisfied.
Graduation Announcements & Class Rings
Our Herff Jones representative, Dallas Moon (805) 716-0278, will be on campus at Back to School Night, Open House and periodically throughout the school year to accept announcement and ring orders. Herff Jones Catalogs for the Class of 2019 are available in the Activities Office.
Diploma Name Verification
The name on your high school diploma will be the same as it is on your transcript unless it is changed. In order to change your name you must have a copy of your birth certificate where your legal name is shown. Complete your diploma name verification during registration.
Each student is given three (3) guest tickets when they pick up their cap and gown. Beginning April 1st and continuing through April 23rd seniors can sign up for a contingent extra ticket request in the Records Office before school, during lunch, or after school (3:16 p.m.). The number of tickets reserved for purchase is determined by the total number of requests made. Ticket results will be posted Thursday, April 25th and these tickets must be purchased for $10.00 cash each on Saturday, April 27th at 9:00 am ONLY in the Vikes’ Café. Any student who does not show up at this date and time will not be guaranteed extra tickets. Any additional tickets that become available will be sold for $20.00 cash each during senior week.
TThe graduation ceremony is a formal recognition of four years of successful academic work. Graduation is an occasion for joy, reflection, and dignity. Graduation Rehearsal is mandatory and will be held in the History Building and Greek Theatre, on Graduation Day, at 10:30 a.m. Details regarding line up, processional, recessional, seating, receiving diplomas, and other information pertaining to the ceremony will be discussed. Students will be requested to show their current Samohi student ID card in order to participate along with being cleared of all school obligations. Students who do not take part in rehearsal will not participate in the ceremony. Students are to report to their assigned graduation rooms at 4:30pm and the ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.
Grad Nite Celebration
Grad Nite is an extravagant all-night party for the graduating class of Santa Monica High School. This event is put together by parents, district, teachers, staff, local businesses, and community members. The ticket price is $110 (August - April), $125 (May), and $150 (June) CASH at the door. Grad Nite will take place the evening of Graduation from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Join us at the first Grad Nite Meeting November 5th in the Student Cafeteria.
October 17, 2018 is the day set aside for the whole senior class to gather together and have a panoramic group picture taken. Advance sales are available during registration and in the Vikes’ Inn. Pre-ordered pictures will be distributed in the Spring.
There will be no student parking on campus this year. Students parking on city streets are reminded to read posted signs carefully and that they will not be released from campus to move vehicles during or in-between classes. Parking is also available at the Civic Center Parking Structure located at Civic Center Drive and Fourth Street at $14 maximum daily charge or call 310-576-4743 for information on monthly parking availability. Senior Family Night
On Tuesday, October 16th we will host a meeting Senior Parents will not want to miss. This meeting is jam packed with important information including Academic and Grade requirements and College, SAT and ACT, Scholarships and Grants, Senior Year Activities, Prom, Graduation Requirements, Graduation, and Grad Nite information. There will be the opportunity to complete paperwork and place orders required for all senior students.
Every senior student will receive an information packet in the mail to their home address along with instructions on how to make an appointment online to have their Senior Portrait taken by White’s Studios. Students do not have to buy a package, but if they want their picture in the yearbook they must arrange for an appointment. As a courtesy, White’s Studios will have their mobile studio on campus as of Friday, July 27th. If students miss the mobile studio, they can make arrangements with White’s Studios to have their portrait taken at their North Hollywood studio location Tuesday - Saturday. On the day of the appointment, please bring the sitting fee that runs between $25 and $69 depending on the option chosen. In order for the senior’s picture to be included in the yearbook they must have a portrait taken by Saturday, October 20, 2018. Senior Honors Night
This celebration will take place on Friday, May 3, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in Barnum Hall. This is a ceremony to recognize and celebrate senior academic achievements, honors, scholarships and awards. Everyone may attend. If a student receives an invitation, it means they are receiving recognition.
This year’s Senior Prom is June 1st. Guest pass applications for seniors wishing to bring a non-Samohi guest will be available in March. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. Ticket sales will take place May 6 - May 24. Students will be requested to show their current Samohi student identification in order to purchase and pick up tickets along with being cleared of all school obligations. (e.g., textbook, library, college center, and financial). Cash only at the time of purchase or online at the Vike’s Store with a processing fee. We ask parents not to assist students in renting hotel rooms or houses for post prom related parties.
Neither Santa Monica High School nor the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District sponsors senior or any other kind of grade level trips. Should you or your child receive a letter, flyer, email, phone call or some other form of communication about a senior trip claiming that they are working with our school, be advised it is not true. Please be on the lookout for these communications and be aware statements being made of affiliation or working together are not true. Santa Monica High School does not sponsor these trips.
We have set aside the days before Graduation as Senior Week. Students will take their final exams in their classes June 3rd-5th. They will not be attending classes while other students are taking final exams. Seniors must report on each day from June 6th-10th in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Students must clear ALL obligations PRIOR to picking up their cap and gown the day before graduation. Parents, relatives, or friends may not stand in for the student to clear obligations or pick up caps and gowns.
Yearbook and Senior Yearbook Ads
Yearbook sales began at registration. Prices increase throughout the school year ranging from $100 to $120 depending on when the purchase is made.
Space is available in the last one-third of the yearbook for senior pages! Full, half, and quarter pages can be purchased by individuals, friends, and groups. Packets will be available at the Senior Parent Night on October 16th or in L104. Senior Page Prices are as follows: Full Page Layout is $200 (maximum 30 photos), Half Page Layout is $125 (maximum 12 photos), Quarter Page Layout is $85 (maximum 6 photos). The last day to reserve a senior page is November 16, 2018 (Packet and 50% deposit due to L104 or Ms. Danesi's box in the H House office). All content for Senior Ads is due by December 14, 2018. Please email either your completed page or the photos you wish to be used to email@example.com. Hard copies of photos can be dropped off to L104 (or placed in Ms. Danesi's box in the H House office).
For all seniors with siblings at Samohi, the yearbook staff will be taking Senior Sibling Photos October 15-19 in L104; sign-ups will begin on October 1st in L104.
