Gallery Report:

Visit a gallery or museum and choose two pieces of art to sketch. Select work that provokes a strong reaction.

For each sketch, make note of artist, title, medium, year and a response to two questions: (Why did you chose the work and what you think of it?)

After the experience, reflect on what you've seen. Did you discover any new topics worthy of investigation? Did you see anything that you would like to incorporate into your own work? Write your reactions.

Artist Report:

The goal of this exercise is for you to learn about different artists, enhance your understanding of art history and provide inspiration for your own work. Pick artists that are interesting to you. ALL IMAGES MUST BE DRAWN so that you spend time looking and earning about the art through the reproduction process.

For two artists, complete the following: (NOTE: one artist must be currently working- producing art in the 2000s)
1. Artist name
2. Place and year born

Make sketches of three of this artist's works. Note media and dimensions (i.e. oil on canvas, 4x5')

Discuss the artist in the space provided on the form. You may consider the following questions: What words would you use to describe the work? What are the most important elements in his/her pieces? What did you learn about the artist's life, working methods and/or philosophy? What distinguishes his/her work from others?
