GRADING RUBRICS



Student work is graded in three areas:



CRAFTSMANSHIP
Student work demonstrates respect and care for its presentation.

COMPOSITION:
Student work shows an understanding and ability to manipulate the elements of art in respect to their relationships with the principles of composition.

ARTISTIC CONTENT:
Student work exhibits an aesthetic content that represents or illustrates a complex, symbolic expression which creates an illuminating experience in the viewer.



Student compositions and reports are graded on:



LITERACY STANDARDS
Students will understand and manage art vocabulary to demonstrate their knowledge of the aesthetic issues and procedures that are relevant to art.

Student work is graded by the following rubrics. Points indicate level of proficiency and are added together to reflect letter grade.

1. Incomplete and sloppy little effort or care.

2. Completed, but messy, poorly considered.

3. Completed, uses some care, ragged edges.

4. Satisfactory use of available techniques.

5. Effective use of all techniques.

6. Exceeds the required techniques goes beyond - exhibits mastery of techniques.

COMPOSITION



1. No relationship between art elements.

2. Some consideration of the relationships between art elements.

3. Satisfactory use of many of the art elements.

4. Effective use of most art elements.

5. All art elements used in a compositional whole.

6. Complete understanding of composition and manipulation of the art elements.

1. Exhibits limited skills to process symbolic relationships.

2. Attempts to replicate examples.

2. Students will be able to read and follow a set procedure to complete a project.

      Students go beyond procedure with commitment and creativity.
MEETS STANDARD
      Students follows all directions effectively.
APPROACHES STANDARD
      Students follow a minimal amount of instructions.
FAILS TO MEET STANDARDS
      Students are unable to follow a sequence of directions.


3. Students will be able to look, understand and articulate their artistic perceptions of a work of art.

EXCEEDS STANDARD
      Students uses original thinking to explain the expressive content of a work of art.
MEETS STANDARD
      Students use a formula approach in critiquing a work of art.
APPROACHES STANDARD
      Students incorporate some of the essential issues of the work of art.
FAILS TO MEET STANDARD
      Student's insights have little relevance to expressive content of the work.
