When a student first enrolls in the district, he or she takes the CELDT (California English Language Development Test), based on the answers to the Home Language Survey.
The CELDT score tells the school which English class the student will initially take.
After a student has been in an English class, the teacher makes a recommendation for which English class the student will take.
To prepare for college (both Cal State and U.C.), there are only certain English courses that will count on an application.
