The State of California has a standardized testing program called STAR-9. About the STAR-9: For several years, the Stanford-9 test was used on all students grades 2-11. In the future, a different exam will be given. The test covers many different areas like science and social studies, in addition to reading, language and mathematics. A minimum score of 36% is needed: Isn order for a student to be redesignated as fluent in English, he or she must perform at the same level as most English-only students. The minimum score is set at 36% for a standardized test like the STAR-9. The total reading score is the only score used to redesignate students as fluent in English. If your score on the last STAR-9 test was below 36%, you must retake the CELDT. If your score was above 36%,and you meet all the other criteria for redesignation, you do not have to retake the CELDT.
