The gallery's mission is to offer the students of Samohi an opportunity to view, evaluate, and learn from professional quality artwork. It is a window into the world of art within the surroundings of their familiar world, their own campus. In 1962, the gallery was moved to its present location and renamed Roberts Art Gallery for Josephine Roberts. Ms. Roberts, visionary leader and teacher, was the first Art Department chair. She retired from Samohi in 1954 but continued to teach art at Santa Monica City College. -- David Wood, Gallery Director
