US HISTORY

United States History P
Grade Level: 11-12
Meets UC/CSU Requirements
Year Course (5 credits per semester)
Prerequisite: World History/Geography P

In this course students will examine major turning points in American history in the twentieth century.

During the year certain themes will be emphasized:
  • the expanding role of the federal government and the federal courts;
  • the continuing tension between the individual and the state and between minority rights and majority power;
  • the emergence of a modern corporate economy;
  • the impact of technology on American society and culture;
  • change in the ethnic composition of American society;
  • the movements toward equal rights for racial minorities and women;
  • and the role of the United States as a major world power.
In each unit students will examine American culture, including religion, literature, art, and the mass media.

United States History SE P
Grade Level: 11-12
Meets UC/CSU Requirements
Year Course (5 credits per semester)
Prerequisite: Recommended grade of C in ELD Intermediate


Students will follow the same P curriculum as the regular United States History class with a sheltered English approach.

United States History AP
Grade Level: 11-12
Meets UC/CSU Requirements
Year Course (5 credits per semester)
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of B in English 10 HP or Spring portfolio placement.

This is a college-level survey course in United States history.

It teaches the skills of historical interpretation and critical analysis necessary for students attempting to undertake the AP exam in American history as administed by the College Board.

Extensive reading is expected.

All students are expected to take the AP exam in May.
